Police have a man in custody tonight who led them on a high speed chase.
The chase started in town and the sheriff's department says the 19-year-old male from Belcourt led officers west on highway two past Larimore at speeds as high as 100 miles an hour. Corporal Schneider of the Grand Forks Sheriff's Department says he was patrolling on interstate 29 and observed a vehicle with tinted windows. Schneider ran the license plate which came back as a stolen vehicle from Fargo. The vehicle was a Gold Impala. Schneider then initiated a traffic stop just south of Grand Forks. The 19-year-old then led officers on a high speed chase through fields and highways.
He led police past the airport, past the air force base and at one point it's believed he left the roadway and was weaving through a field driving in a manner described as "baja style" then apparently got back on highway two and led officials through Larimore, then pulled off on County Road 11. He drove his car off the road, through a ditch and out onto a field. He fled from his vehicle on foot and was then apprehended by police.
