Study Sees Increase in Homelessness and Poverty in North Dakota

North Dakota is seeing a boom in the number of homeless and poor people in the state. Many came looking for work in the oil patch but weren't able to find jobs before running out of money for rent. The number of unsheltered homeless people has exceeded the number of sheltered individuals in North Dakota.

North Dakota is seeing a boom in the number of homeless and poor people in the state. Many came looking for work in the oil patch but weren't able to find jobs before running out of money for rent. The number of unsheltered homeless people has exceeded the number of sheltered individuals in North Dakota.

A study by the North Dakota Coalition for Homeless People shows that as of last year the number of unsheltered individuals reached more than 950. The State's emergency shelters were completely full with nearly 810 people. Nearly 200 service providers from around the state have been interviewed to see where the needs are and what can be done in to solve this problem. The full study will be released next week.
