Three titleholders were crowned at the Miss Grand Forks Scholarship Pageant at the Empire Arts Center, making them eligible to advance to state competition leading to the Miss America pageant.
• Laura Harmon, Grand Forks, is the new Miss Grand Forks. A student at UND, her talent was a vocal solo, and her platform was Renewable Resources. First runner-up was Christina King and second runner-up was Abigail Mattson, both of Grand Forks.
• Cara Mund, Bismarck, won the Miss Empire title. A student at Brown University, her talent was a jazz dance, and her platform was the Make-a-Wish Foundation. First runner-up was Megan Yahna of Larimore, N.D.
Harmon and Mund are eligible to advance to the Miss North Dakota competition in Williston, N.D., in June.
• Paige Meyer, Perham, Minn., was crowned Miss Grand Cities. A student at Jamestown (N.D.) College, her talent was ballet, and her platform was Education in America. Michelle Stahlecker, Crookston, was first runner-up and Emily Lundgren, Aikin, Minn., was second runner-up.
Meyer is eligible to compete in the Miss Minnesota competition in St. Paul in June.
Michelle Stahlecker also was winner of the Miracle Maker Award, which goes to the contestant who raises the most money for Children’s Miracle Network hospitals, which is a cause supported by the Miss America organization. The money raised by the Grand Forks contestants will go to Sanford Children’s Hospital in Fargo, which is the closest qualifying children’s hospital.
Abigail Mattson was named Miss Congeniality. The Z94.7 People’s Choice Award, for which the public could vote online, went to Chandler Kallock of East Grand Forks.
Laura Harmon received the Tres Chic Bridal, Formal Wear & Professional Styling high score evening gown award and the Wild Hog Smokehouse Bar & Grill talent award. The Anytime Fitness high score swim suit award went to Megan Yahna, and Cara Mund won the CK Shoppe high score interview award.
