Local law enforcement are sharing their thoughts on what happened when a police officer was shot and killed during a routine check in Cold Spring Minnesota.
The shooting happened late last night when 31-year-old Thomas Decker was shot and killed behind an apartment. Decker was checking on 34-year-old Ryan Larson after a call was recieved about him possibly being suicidal around 10:45 pm. When Decker arrived Larson allegedly fired two shots at him. Although the officer was wearing a bulletproof vest, he still died from the injuries. Local officers say it is a tragedy, because whenever you go out on a call you never know what you may be walking into or what you are going to see. They say this is a harsh reminder of what can happen at any time in their line of work and they feel for the family, especially since Decker has four children.
Local officers say they have dealt with shootings in the past, but it doesn't happen in this area very often. About an hour after the shooting last night, Larson was arrested and is being held on suspicion of 2nd degree murder.
