Grand Forks City Council passed a second amendment this evening to the city ordinance banning smoking in public places.
The city is taking the statewide law passed in November and configuring it into the current city ordinance. The new law includes what some council members call unnecessary provisions like having to move ashtrays 20 feet from the front door of any business. Some believe this requirement could add to the litter problem and potentially cause a fire hazard. Businesses found in violation of this provision could lose a city-granted license such as liquor or taxi licenses.
