Council Votes 5-1 For New Traffic Light

Grand Forks City Council voted five to one tonight to install a traffic signal at the intersection of South Washington Street and 40th Avenue South. But there was conflicting discussion this evening on if installing the traffic signal a year early is worth an $80,000 loss.

A crash-prone intersection will soon be getting a safety net. Grand Forks City Council voted five to one tonight to install a traffic signal at the intersection of South Washington Street and 40th Avenue South.

The city will do this one year before the light installation was planned because of an increase in traffic accidents at that location. There was conflicting discussion this evening on if installing the traffic signal a year early is worth an $80,000 loss. And that discussion didn't end before council members fired at each other's political stance. A roundabout was also suggested but city engineer Al Grasser says he doesn't want the first one in Grand Forks to be at that intersection.
