The military and civilian communities alike are rocked by the deaths of two North Dakota National Guardsmen while on duty in Afghanistan.

41-year-old Sargeant First Class Darren Linde of Devils Lake and 20-year-old Specialist Tyler Orgaard of Bismarck were killed when their vehicle struck an IED. The military community in Devils Lake says the best way to honor fallen soldiers is to take care of their families.

Sargeant Darren Linde left behind a wife and four children and Specialist Orgaard is survived by his parents. Veterans at the Devils Lake "Disabled American Veterans" chapter are all too familiar with the sacrifice soldiers make while serving their country. They say the most important thing a community can do after losing on of their own is to look after the people soldiers leave behind.
