Recent polls show nearly ten percent of the population believe the world is ending this month. They say it's because the current Mayan long count calendar ends December 21st.

Scientists say the Mayan calendar has predicted events such as solar and lunar eclipses accurately, so some people think the world will end when the Mayan calendar ends. But experts say not to worry, just because the 5,000 year calendar is ending doesn't mean the world is ending. They say it's no different than our yearly calendar ending and a new year beginning. Some say the Mayans meant this as a time of celebrating new things and beginning a new calendar. Still, despite what the experts say people around the world are still taking this seriously. Thousands of websites have popped up dealing with the issue. Topics range from tips on how to survive to how to make your end of the world party a success.
