Record Births Expected at Altru

Altru Health System is well on its way to breaking a record this year with the number of babies being born. More than 1,600 babies are expected to be born by the end of the year.

Altru Health System is well on its way to breaking a record this year with the number of babies being born. More than 1,600 babies are expected to be born by the end of the year.

Expansion in the building, an increase in the number of doctors and population have all attributed to this record-breaking year. Doctors say they see the most babies being born in early summer and then again this time of year. There are between four and five births a day at Altru and as of yesterday there have been a total of 1,569 this year. The highest was in 2010 with 1,576.

A recent NICU expansion is helping more moms with premies or babies with complications stay at Altru instead of having to make the trip to Fargo for care. Three women are expected to give birth today and then the Family Birthing Center is just five babies away from reaching their record.
