A portion of downtown Grand Forks was evacuated this morning after a natural gas leak was discovered in an alley behind The Hub Bar.

A portion of downtown Grand Forks was evacuated this morning after a natural gas leak was discovered in an alley behind The Hub Bar.

The call was reported shortly before 10:30 this morning. Gas has been shut off to area buildings as crews from Xcel Energy work to repair the line, which they say they have under control. A portion of North Third Street was closed to traffic while the Grand Forks Fire Department worked to fix the problem. The fire department says some of the gas leaks can be caused by cold temperatures, however they are not certain what caused this particular leak.
