A Fort Totten man was sentenced to over two years in prison in federal court today.
24-year-old Brand Richard Yankton was sentenced to 27 months before US District Judge Ralph Erickson for assaulting a federal officer. The assault took place in April of 2012 on the Spirit Lake Reservation. Yankton pleaded guilty in August to biting the right forearm of Bureau of Indian Affairs Chief of Police Raymon Cavanaugh while he was arresting Yankton for a traffic violation. In addition, Yankton will serve three years of supervised release and pay a $100 special assessment to the crime victim's fund.
