Minnesota Man Gets Two Months in Jail in Fatal Hit-Run
A Rosemount man has been sentenced to two months in jail for a 2009 hit-and-run that fatally injured a deaf woman. A judge Tuesday also sentenced 44-year-old Eric James Hunter to three years probation.
HASTINGS, Minn. — A Rosemount man has been sentenced to two months in jail for a 2009 hit-and-run that fatally injured a deaf woman.
A judge Tuesday also sentenced 44-year-old Eric James Hunter to three years probation.
Hunter pleaded guilty in October to leaving the scene of an accident that caused a death, a felony. That followed a 2010 trial that ended in a hung jury and a Minnesota Court of Appeals battle over whether he could be retried.
Twenty-six-year-old Joan LeVasseur of Apple Valley was struck at an intersection in Apple Valley. Accident reconstruction determined LaVasseur was crossing the street against a red light in the dark. She died a week later.
The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports if Hunter violates probation, he faces a year and a month in prison.
