Voters in Mayville have agreed overwhelmingly to a property tax hike to pay for a new fire engine.
The tax increase requested by the Fire and Rescue Department got more than 80 percent of the votes. A 60 percent majority was needed for it. The $250,000 raised would pay for a replacement for an older pumper truck still in use. For the owner of a $100,000 home the tax increase means another $31 per year in taxes for the next five years.
