The frigid temperatures have many people either staying indoors or dressing up in layers to beat the cold. With wind chills between 30 and 45 below, it can be dangerous to be outside for prolonged periods of time.

The average lowest temperature for this area is around minus 30, so meteorologists say this air mass coming in, although cold is rather average for our climate. With a high near seven below today many are doing what they can to stay indoors. So far this winter the Grand Forks area has seen one day of subzero temperatures, but the average is more than ten days. Those working construction outdoors are finding ways to warm up by sitting in their warmed up cars every now and then. Those that have to be outside are layering up, covering their faces and hurrying to their destination.

Meteorologists say since this air mass is so cold, even without much snow on the ground it's still well below zero.
