The Devils Lake Volunteer Fire Department is gearing up for its 29th annual fishing tournament and they say this year's edition promises to be the biggest yet.

The fire department sold 3,000 more tickets for this year's tournament than last year and they still sold out months before the tournament. The fire department sold 18,000 tickets for this Saturday's tournament. Fire Chief Jim Moe says tickets were pretty much gone by Thanksgiving. Anyone with a ticket is allowed to fish in the tournament although the fire department only expects 5,000 people to hit the ice. The tournament is popular because of the raffle after the tournament featuring hundreds of prizes. And with more tickets being sold there are more chances to win. All proceeds from the tournament go to the Devils Lake volunteer fire department. Fire Chief Jim Moe says they expect to raise more than $100,000, which will be used to help buy a new fire truck.
