The city of Devils Lake has paved the way for a new Wal-Mart Supercenter to be built on the east side of town. The city commission agreed to annex land for the new development and approved a development layout at last night's meeting.

The city has done all it can to open to door for the new supercenter. The commission agreed on a plat for the new development, which includes road layouts, public right-of-ways and utility placements. The city drew up an agreement to annex land for the development along Highway Two east, but that's not a done deal yet. The annexation and rezoning is dependent on Wal-Mart purchasing the land from the current owner. But the deal automatically falls into place if Wal-Mart buys the land. Wal-Mart must purchase the land for the new site within two years for the annexation agreement to go through.
