Former UND linebacker and defensive coordinator Tim Tibesar has been hired as linebackers coach of the Chicago Bears, according to ESPN.

The St. Paul native will be reunited with the Bears' new head coach, Marc Trestman. Tibesar was Trestman's defensive coordinator when Trestman coached the Montreal Alouettes to two CFL Grey Cups in 2009 and 2010.

In Chicago, Tibesar replaces former NDSU head coach Bob Babich, who was let go after the season and is now Jacksonville's defensive coordinator.

Tibesar spent the 2012 season as defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Purdue.

Tibesar was an outstanding linebacker at UND from 1993 to 1996, winning All-North Central Conference honors three times, and All-America honors in 1995 and 1996.

Tibesar coached at UND from 2001 to 2005. He began as inside linebackers coach. In 2004, he was promoted to defensive coordinator.

Tibesar also has experience as an assistant at Cornell and Kansas State.
