Sales tax on clothing in North Dakota could be a thing of the past if some legislators get their way. Several lawmakers say clothing is a basic necessity and have proposed the new legislation.

Senate bill 2277 includes providing tax relief for everyone, relief for employees to buy their own work uniforms and making it easier to compete with Minnesota and Montana who currently have no sales tax on clothing. If the bill passes it would go into effect August 1st.
