Storm Forces East Grand Forks Schools to Close, Grand Forks Remains Open

The winter storm led to students in East Grand Forks getting a snow day today, but in Grand Forks schools remained open. Officials from both schools say they work together to assess conditions but ultimately make separate decisions. David Pace, East Grand Forks Superintendent, "Number one of course is visibility. Temperature is always a consideration, especially when we deal with buses." Pace was out testing the roads at four this morning. At first, he called for a two hour delay. But after an accident shut down a portion of Highway two this morning, Pace decided to close the school, and students weren't complaining. Cody Rodriguez, East Grand Forks student, "It's nice to have school off whenever it snows. It's pretty cool that they called it off since Central and Red River didn't."

Since the school has used both snow days they planned for, any more closings will mean additional make-up days at the end of the year. Grand Forks Schools Superintendent Dr. Larry Nybladh says his district doesn't have as many rural roads as East Grand Forks does so it typically doesn't have as many cancellations.
