This time of year, local repair shops see quite a few dead batteries and block heaters not working. Mechanics say maintenance helps, like getting your battery tested and regular oil changes. If you have a block heater, remember to plug it in to make sure your car starts. If you don't have a heater or warm place to park during the day, mechanics say it's a good idea to start your car and let it run for ten to fifteen minutes every four to five hours to keep the engine warm.
