Rodriguez Denied Appeal

Crookston man sentenced to die for kidnapping and killing UND student Dru Sjodin.

A federal appeals court has denied a rehearing for Alfonso Rodriguez junior.

The Crookston man was sentenced to death for killing UND Student Dru Sjodin in 2003.

That happened at a federal trial in Fargo in 2006.

Rodriguez is a convicted sex offender and appealed the death sentence on 20 different grounds, but a three-judge panel of the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of appeals rejected all of them back in September.

Rodriguez then asked for a new hearing in front of the entire circuit court. That request was denied in an order released late this afternoon.
