Those we talked with today had many different thoughts on why the state would be considered so lucky and why they are as well. The Times article attributes the luck not only to the oil boom but also to a growing population and booming businesses. North Dakota's unemployment rate has continually been below five percent since 1987 and the state continues to hold the lowest unemployment rate at 3.2 percent with the national average being 7.9.
