MINNEWAUKAN, N.D. (AP) - The mayor of Minnewaukan says she is
worried about the future of the town on the shores of Devils Lake
if the waters keep rising.
The National Weather Service says the lake is almost certain to
rise to a record level again this summer and there is better than
an equal chance that it will surpass 1,452 feet.
Much of Minnewaukan sits at 1,454 feet, and Mayor Trish McQuoid
says a number of homeowners might opt to take flood insurance
buyouts. She says up to three dozen homes might qualify.
McQuoid says a buyout of that size would devastate the community
of 300 people.
