Red River Choral Director Named Director of the Year

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Brad Sherwood, Choral Director at Red River High School, has been named the Choral Director of the Year by the North Dakota chapter of the American Choral Directors Association.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Brad Sherwood, Choral Director at Red River High School, has been named the Choral Director of the Year by the North Dakota chapter of the American Choral Directors Association.

The award is given to a director that shows unique dedication to the choral art and students. Sherwood, "It is completely humbling to be nominated by your peers. We all work very hard and are constantly trying to improve and provide incredible experiences for students. When that work is recognized by others that work equally as hard, it is humbling.”

Sherwood is a third-generation music educator. His father Ken presented him with the award at the conference. Sherwood's sister Connie teaches music at South Middle School and together the duo has worked 11 months a year teaching music and working in the Summer Performing Arts Company

“My grandfather was a choral music instructor at Grand Forks Central from 1943-1968,” said Sherwood. “My father was on the first faculty at Red River High School and worked there for over 20 years.”

Sherwood’s father, Ken, presented him with the award at the conference.

Sherwood’s sister, Connie, teaches music at South Middle School. Together, the duo has worked 11 months a year teaching music and working in the Summer Performing Arts Company. Brad Sherwood has been at Red River since 1992. “This is ‘home’,” said Sherwood, “and there is no greater gift that the district can provide and there is no greater compliment that can be given in return.”
