A Fort Francis, Ont., man has been arrested in Grand Forks in connection with a gun-smuggling investigation between the United States and Canada.
Shawn Hartnell was taken into custody during a sting involving Royal Canadian Mounted Police at a Grand Forks hotel, according to a report from KFGO Radio.
According to U.S. District Court documents, Hartnell told undercover agents last April that he could provide fully automatic assault rifles for $4,000.
Hartnell allegedly told the agents that the guns could be smuggled into Canada on a snowmobile.
After agents paid $24,000 for six guns, Hartnell was arrested.
Hartnell is facing three charges. At least two other people are believed to be part of the conspiracy, according to the report.
