Unemployment levels in the Lake Region are above the state average, but still well below national rates. Local officials say a slightly elevated unemployment rate can actually help promote job growth in the area.

The unemployment rate in Ramsey County may not be going down, but that doesn't mean there aren't new jobs in the area. The unemployment rate in Ramsey County is 4.6 percent. Even with that rate, there are more than four hundred job openings in the county. New companies are moving into the area, and existing companies are expanding, which is creating more jobs. Job openings are expected to climb even higher in the next few years. There are several job creators readying to bring more openings to Devils Lake, from manufacturer Ultra-Green to the Applebees restaurant chain.

Having an unemployment rate slightly higher than state average actually helps to recruit companies to the lake region because it ensures there are workers to hire.
