A premier showing of a new documentary file titled “I Am A Person" will be shown at 6:30 p.m. tonight at the Empire Arts Center in downtown Grand Forks.

The documentary highlights the stories of several people with intellectual disabilities from around North Dakota. The purpose of the film is to challenge the stigmas and myths still held by the general public, officials said in a release. It explores what is possible when people are provided with the support they need to live full and happy lives and shows how people contribute to their communities through their work and development of social capital.

The event is free and open to the public. It is produced by Prairie Public Broadcasting in conjunction with the ND Association of Community Providers, with funding from the ND Council on Developmental Disabilities and Prairie Public Broadcasting, Inc.

The event starts at 6:30 p.m. with a social, followed by the movie and a discussion period.
