A $500,000 home buyer assistance program is moving forward as the city finance and development committee works to help those with low to moderate incomes buy homes.

Although land hasn't been sold to a developer just yet the plan calls for 71 for-sale housing units. This particular home buyer assistance program would apply to the Thames Court area west of I-29, but city leaders questioned why the Housing Authority is only targeting a small portion of lots when a program like this could benefit the entire city.

The project will go to the state for approval and city council next Monday.
