The winds of opportunity are blowing at Lake Region State College now after their $7 million wind turbine has started turning. The turbine will give wind energy tech students valuable hands-on experience and provide an energy boost for the college.

The college says the new wind turbine puts them among the top handful of wind energy technician programs in the country. Lake Region interim President Doug Darling says he's been working to bring a wind turbine to the school since 2006, three years before the first wind energy classes were held at the college. In that short amount of time the program has made a name for itself, becoming one of only six wind energy programs in the country to be certified by the American Wind Energy Association.

Now students will be able to take what they learn in the classroom and use it in real life situations on an actual turbine.
