Crookston Housing Incentive Extended

A housing incentive program is being extended, helping bring more homeowners to Crookston. A two-year property tax abatement is just one of the incentives city leaders are hoping will attract more people to the area.

A housing incentive program is being extended, helping bring more homeowners to Crookston. A two-year property tax abatement is just one of the incentives city leaders are hoping will attract more people to the area.

The program has been in place since 2002 with other incentives including free water and sewer hookups, swimming pool passes and boulevard trees. Around five homebuilders have taken advantage of the program each year and in 2013 there are already eight homes being built using these incentives. Those who have built in the area are happy to have the help. There will soon be even more available space in the area when the Crookston Homestead Act will kick off this spring, with 15 free or low-cost lots available for people who want to build a home.
