Sen. Heidi Heitkamp, D-N.D., said today she will host a series of roundtable discussions next week on the Violence Against Women Act, which the Senate voted Tuesday to reauthorize.
The public discussions will be held in Bismarck, Jamestown, Fargo, Grand Forks, Devils Lake and Belcourt, N.D.
Reauthorization of the act, approved by the Senate on a bipartisan vote of 78-22, now is before the House. In a statement issued by her office today, Heitkamp called the legislation “vital” and urged the House to approve it.
“I am looking forward to sitting down with a cross-section of North Dakotans to discuss how the legislation we passed will improve the lives of families in our state,” Heitkamp said.
Her office posted this schedule for the roundtable discussions:
Tuesday — 9-10:15 a.m., United Tribes Technical College Healing Room, Bismarck; 1:30-2:30 p.m., Law Enforcement Center, Jamestown.
Wednesday — 8:30-9:30 a.m., YWCA Emergency Shelter, Fargo.
Thursday — 2-3 p.m., Community Violence Intervention Center, 211 S. 4th St., Grand Forks.
Friday — 10:30-11:30 a.m., Lake Region State College Chautauqua Room, Devils Lake; 4-5 p.m., Sky Dancer Casino, Belcourt.
