The Grand Forks library needs millions of dollars of repairs, according to the most recent building assessment. A group was formed this month to determine the best route in moving forward with repairs and possibly a new building.
Library board president Brian Schill says about 700 to 800 people visit the library every day making it vital to find a solution that works for all. Amber Frolich, library user, "I noticed there's not enough computers, there's definitely not enough parking. I mean it's a big library, I know it's kind of hidden, but they do get a lot of people here." Library Board President Brian Schill says there's no shortage of problems with the current facility, from electrical to building codes and more. A proposed sales tax increase to build a new facility was shot down by voters in 2011. The group has no definite timeline for finding a solution, but members say they expect to have recommendations ready by summer.
