Concern Expressed Over Sales Tax Bill

Grand Forks sales tax continues to top the charts. This marks the third consecutive February that sales tax has landed in the top ten list, but state legislators will look at a bill later this month that if passed would get rid of sales tax on clothing, leaving some to wonder if it would in fact harm the booming trend.

This marks the third consecutive February that sales tax has landed in the top ten list, but state legislators will look at a bill later this month that if passed would get rid of sales tax on clothing, leaving some to wonder if it would in fact harm the booming trend.

Grand Forks is up almost nine percent in terms of sales tax when looking at a 12-month period. Getting rid of the tax on clothing might actually boost sales numbers rather than put stores in the red. The sales tax bill calls for setting two years of funding aside for cities, but finance directors are concerned about what will happen when those two years are over.
