5th Annual Formal Wear Sale Helps Youth Attend Events in Style, On a Budget

It's a night every girl wants to remember, but finding those prom dresses, shoes and accessories can be rather costly. The fifth annual Formal Wear Sale in Grand Forks is helping girls find just what they are looking for at a fraction of the price.

It's a night every girl wants to remember, but finding those prom dresses, shoes and accessories can be rather costly. The fifth annual Formal Wear Sale in Grand Forks is helping girls find just what they are looking for at a fraction of the price.

We stopped by the sale today at The Ember downtown and there are literally hundreds of beautiful new and used prom dresses to choose from. The event started five years ago when a student did not get to go to prom because it was too expensive and wanted to make sure others could afford to go. The Nonprofit Leadership Student Association asks for gently used prom dresses. Many of the dresses are worth $400-$500 but are marked down to between $10 and $150.

Heather Helgeson, Nonprofit Leadership Program, "It's not only to provide girls the opportunity to get a dress for less money but it's a great way to recycle and we also give the proceeds to a project of ours and this year it's the Sunshine Hospitality Home."

The sale will go until 7 p.m. Friday night and 12:00-5:00 p.m. Saturday.
