The life and times of a lake region pioneer are on display for a limited time at the Lake Region Heritage Center. The exhibit shares the story of Henry Hale, who settled in the area in 1878.

Among the artifacts are his fife and sword he used while serving in the army during reconstruction, as well as medical text books and photos from his life. The items were willed to the museum by Hale's granddaughter, who died last year at the age of 100. Hale accomplished a lot in the lake region. He helped bring rail lines to the area, helped found a historic church and served as a doctor at Fort Totten.

The exhibit is at the Lake Region Heritage Center for a limited time because the State Historical Society is interested in the items.
