Minnesota state representative Deb Kiel talked tax issues Friday in East Grand Forks.
Kiel says the main concerns she hears deal with the proposed sales tax on certain goods and services. Michael Hlady, MN Resident, "The sales tax can discourage people from living in the Minnesota side for one. there's some issues there. but more importantly it ends up taxing middle class people." "Revenue is not the problem. We have plenty of revenue. It's how it's being used and how it's being spent."
Kiel agrees and says adding the tax would hurt Minnesota businesses, especially those along state borders. Proponents say it would help wipe out the budget deficit and would be more fair for both consumers and businesses.
