Tjelta Finishes 9th in Junior Iditarod

15-year-old Melinda Tjelta of Sheyenne, North Dakota finished ninth in the Junior Iditarod dogsled race this weekend in Alaska.

15-year-old Melinda Tjelta of Sheyenne, North Dakota finished ninth in the Junior Iditarod dogsled race this weekend in Alaska.

Tjelta and her team of ten dogs finished the race in 19 hours and 45 minutes.

She was one of 13 teenage mushers racing this weekend. Tjelta is one of only two racers from the lower 48 states to compete in the race. Racers completed half of the race on Saturday and half yesterday.
