WDAZ-TV will televise the 2013 Minnesota Section 8A boys hockey championship game between East Grand Forks and Warroad on Thursday, Feb. 28, at 7:00 P.M., live from the East Grand Forks Civic Center.
It will be the first time the event has ever been televised live.
East Grand Forks, the first seed, reached the title game with Saturday's 4-1 semifinal win over Crookston. Warroad, the third seed, defeated defending champion Thief River Falls 1-0 in the other semifinal.
East Grand Forks leads the season series 1-0-1. The Green Wave beat the visiting Warriors 5-3 on Dec. 14, then skated to a 4-4 overtime tie Feb. 2 in Warroad.
East Grand Forks (21-3-3) is seeking its first section title since 2002, while Warroad (19-6-2) last won the championship in 2010.
WDAZ sports director Pat Sweeney will call the play-by-play, with commentary by longtime Section 8 broadcaster Frank Fee of KROX Radio in Crookston.
Sweeney has been with WDAZ since 1982, becoming sports director in 1983. He called play-by-play of University of North Dakota athletics for 28 years, and has also announced North Dakota and Minnesota high school tournament games.
Fee joined KROX in 1975 and has worn many hats at the station, including president, general manager and owner. Fee has called more than 4,000 games for KROX and was inducted into the Minnesota Broadcasting Hall of Fame in 2010.
