Grand Forks Fire fighters responded to a residential gas leak just before noon Tuesday. According to the fire department, city crews were repairing a water main break when they drilled into a gas line causing the leak.

About a half dozen homes are affected on the 1400 block of Rider Road. It may take several hours to repair. Crews have to dig into the frozen ground to find the point of the rupture and then reseal the line. Once the line is fixed homeowners will be notified to call Excel Energy to have the gas turned back on.
