New UND Med School Closer to Reality

UND's Med School is now one step closer to a new facility. That's thanks to state senators approving nearly $124 million to pay for the proposed building.

Supporters say a new building would benefit the entire state for years to come. The med school dean says there's not enough space to add any new students. He says new students are needed to care for a growing and aging state population. A space study was done to determine the best solution moving forward.

Two other options still on the table include expanding the current facility, one at a cost of about $40 million, the other would cost about $70 million. Senators say they don't expect the house to vote on it until near the end of session. The expected completion date for either a new building, or just an expansion, is 2016.
