Snowmobilers need to be aware of more than just their safety - they need to remember the rules, especially within their city limits. People in Grand Forks are only supposed to ride on a designated route that the city council approves every fall if they are within the city limits. Those in East Grand Forks can't drive their sleds on sidewalks or berms, and they aren't supposed to ride within the city limits between 10 pm and 8 am. Riders aren't allowed to snowmobile on private property ever, in either city.
Sgt. Tom Laughlin/Grand Forks Police Department: "It seems like the biggest issue is them trying to get from either their house or where ever they trailered it to to the designated area."
Snowmobile riders who break the rules can be ticketed.
