Phone Scam Returns to the Area

The Grand Forks Sheriff's Department is warning people about the return of phone scams to the area. Sheriff's investigators say a couple got a call yesterday about their grandson being arrested out of state.

The Grand Forks Sheriff's Department is warning people about the return of phone scams to the area. Sheriff's investigators say a couple got a call yesterday about their grandson being arrested out of state.

The callers requested the couple send bond money to bail him out. The couple called authorities who told them the call was likely a scam. Investigators say to call the sheriff's department if you get a similar call and are suspicious.

Mark Forvarp, Grand Forks Sheriff's Department Investigator, "The grandson was supposedly some place out in Los Angeles, California. Some of the other scams that we heard of will go as far as saying a family member is in trouble in a different country.

The scammers called the couple back, but hung up when they learned authorities were contacted.
