Grand Forks Teen "Military Child of the Year"

A Grand Forks teen will be taking an exciting trip to Washington D.C. after winning Military Child of the Year. Alexander Burch who attends Thompson High School won after not only getting good grades, but putting in more than 400 hours of community service.

A Grand Forks teen will be taking an exciting trip to Washington D.C. after winning Military Child of the Year. Alexander Burch who attends Thompson High School won after not only getting good grades, but putting in more than 400 hours of community service.

Thousands of kids from military families are nominated for the national award with only five winning for each branch. Burch's father was in the U.S. Navy which is the branch he will represent in Washington D.C. when he receives his award.

Burch: "I felt excited, just very ecstatic, knowing that I won. It was a long process but I am glad for all the hours I put in."

Burch will get a tour of the White House and attend the awards ceremony on April 11th.
