The North Dakota Senate has endorsed a House bill that extends the amount of time a victim can report a crime.

Currently, crime victims have 72 hours to report it to authorities in order to be compensated for losses. The bill endorsed Thursday night extends that amount of time to 96 hours, or four days. The amount a victim can be compensated is capped at $25,000.
