The town of New Rockford, North Dakota is facing a severe shortage of child care, with many parents unable to find care for their kids.

The owner of the only group child care facility in New Rockford says potential parents in town are putting off having children because they know how hard it will be to find child care.

Nathan Presnell, owner of "Just Four Kidz", says he's had to turn away 15 parents in the last three weeks looking for child care. Three different child care facilities have closed in the last six months in New Rockford.

Presnell says more young couples are moving to New Rockford, which is bring more kids into the community. The New Rockford Area Betterment Corporation is reaching out to the community to help address the program. The group is encouraging people to seek out training to open in-home day cares in town.

Parents in New Rockford have started sharing coveted day care spots, with children alternating which days they can go to day care. A bill that recently passed the state house would increase the maximum number of children a day care can have from 18 to 30.
