The American Cancer Society has selected Denae Grove of East Grand Forks to serve as honorary chair for this year's Relay For Life of Grand Forks. Not only will this be Grove's first Relay, it will be her first spring in five years without a cancer diagnosis.

The 40-year-old marathon runner elected to have a double-mastectomy just two weeks after being diagnosed with breast cancer, but the cancer returned in the same place. Grove finally received the news just a few weeks ago that she is cancer free, and she's thrilled to use Relay as a chance to celebrate.

Grove: "When it gets hard and you want to go to bed and you want to leave and go home, remember that cancer person. They can't give up. They don't get to quit and go to bed and wake up tomorrow to a new day."

This year's Relay is May 31. WDAZ is a proud supporter of the event. So far, 80 people are already signed up.
