Settlement Reached in Minnesota Scout Molestation Case

A settlement has been reached in a lawsuit by a man who says he was molested by a Burnsville ex-scoutmaster who's now serving a 21-year prison sentence.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — A settlement has been reached in a lawsuit by a man who says he was molested by a Burnsville ex-scoutmaster who's now serving a 21-year prison sentence.

The Star Tribune reports it's one of two lawsuits alleging abuse by Peter Stibal II, and it was due to go to trial Tuesday before Ramsey County Judge Kathleen Gearin.

Both lawsuits name Stibal, the Northern Star Council and the national scouting organization. The case that settled also names a church where Stibal was a youth leader and chaperon, while the other names the church where he was scoutmaster.

The other case is before Judge Elena Ostby. In January, Ostby ordered Scouting to hand over confidential national records on sexual abuse from 1999 to 2008. That case remains set for trial in September.
