The only movie theater in Rugby, North Dakota has reopened after more than three months. The town's Job Development Authority bought the theater and volunteers have been busy fixing up the theater and raising money for a costly digital conversion.

The theater nearly closed down for good last year, but volunteers have been busy the last few months ensuring the Rugby mainstay will remain open. The first show at the former Center Cinema is this Friday night. The new theater is called the Lyric Theater, which was the original name when it opened. Volunteers have spent the last three months updating the 90-year-old building adding paint, modern concessions and even hot water in the bathrooms. They have also raised 40,000 dollars, nearly half of what they need to upgrade the electrical system and buy a digital projector. They hope to raise the money and have the projector installed by mid-summer.

There are several fundraising events set up to benefit the theater, including an adult prom and T-shirt sales. The theater has also set up an account at Merchants Bank in Rugby where people can donate.
