Winter Not Over Yet, More Snow Expected this Weekend

Grand Forks and surrounding areas got slammed with several inches of snow Friday and it just keeps falling. Some drivers dealt with near white-out conditions today and travel is difficult as roads are covered with scattered ice and compacted snow across the region.

Grand Forks and surrounding areas got slammed with several inches of snow Friday and it just keeps falling. Some drivers dealt with near white-out conditions today and travel is difficult as roads are covered with scattered ice and compacted snow across the region.

While the official start of spring is next week, a spokesman with the National Weather Service in Grand Forks says winter weather won't be letting up anytime soon and some residents are finding ways to embrace this news.

Dave Kellenbenz, National Weather Service: "We've had pretty much widespread three to five inches of snow today and this evening."

But all that snow hasn't stopped one dedicated runner from venturing out tonight.

Richard Wakefield: "I try to make it about three times a week."

And Richard, along with everyone else in the region, might be dealing with winter weather for a while yet.

Richard: "I know everybody wants it to leave but the old timers who experienced winter back in the 50's and 60's know what real winter is, so this is pretty minor."

Dave: "We've been kind of spoiled the last few years. This time last year it was like in the fifties, golf courses were opening up."

Meteorologists with the national weather service expect a few more snow storms this season.

Dave: "I think since the winter kind of really kicked in in January it's been pretty active around here."

A storm with school cancellations possible comes right on the heels of the system today.

Dave: "Sunday afternoon through Monday, looks to be larger storm systems spreading significant snow potentially throughout the area with six or more inches possible."

With that news Wakefield offers some advice for those with the winter blues.

Richard: "Everybody take a little time to revisit winter because it's going to be gone soon."

A new bout of snow is expected to come Sunday night and last into Monday.
