Today is the start of the 44th Annual University of North Dakota Writers Conference. This year's event themed "A Portrait of an Artist" will run Tuesday through Saturday.

Each year literature lovers from all over North Dakota and beyond come to this event to listen to discussions and readings. The Conference also puts on an annual film festival. Authors are invited to select films that have influenced their work or have a special connection to the theme. The film festival is free and open to the public.

Crystal Alberts, Co-Director of conference: "This is such phenomenal event because you get to hang out with authors you can walk up you can have a glass of wine and ask them a question, you can talk about their work. It's completely free and open to the public and it's unlike any other conference in the country."

The lineup for this year's authors includes two-time Oscar nominee and Pulitzer Prize winner Tony Kushner. A complete schedule is available at http://www.undwritersconference.org. All sessions are free to attend and open to the public.
